Year 6 Trip to the Thames on Emirates Air Line Cable Car

Year 6 enjoyed great views and a unique ride across the Thames on the Emirates Air Line Cable Car as one of their end of term trips linked to our topic of London.
The Emirates Air Line is a cable car crossing the River Thames in Greenwich, and the 1km journey gave the children spectacular views of London from a height of up to 90m (295ft).

We were just ten minutes away from the entertainment complex of the O2 Arena before take-off. Incredible views included the Thames Barrier, the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf and the impressive Olympic Park. The cable car touched down south of the River Thames in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Ourexperience began in Greenwich where we boarded our cabin in groups. We sat back, relaxed and took in the 360-degree aerial views throughout the short flight. There was a comprehensive In-Flight Guide video on-board. The children’s reactions where memorable; they picked out the iconic landmarks and shared their prior knowledge from school about the landmarks as they spotted them.

Upon arrival the children discussed the London landmarks while having lunch on the green. The children celebrated their learning and achievements by catching up with each other, playing games and best of all lots of laughing. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful sights of London and we were very lucky to have lovely warm weather too.

The children did not miss anything, as they got a second chance to spot the breath-taking sights on our return journey to the Emirates Greenwich Peninsula. We ended our experience at the Emirates Royal Docks, strolling by the picturesque waterfront when walking back to the nearby DLR.
